However, even teeth aren’t invincible to injury and wear, and in some cases a crown is a great option for restoring your smile. Here at Rosewood Dental Clinic, we can create stunning bespoke crowns that fit in seamlessly amid your existing teeth.
The crowning process is generally completed normally over 2 appointments. Here’s what you can expect when getting a crown with us:
Initial examination: we will examine the tooth requiring treatment, inspect the extent of the damage and take the necessary x-rays. We can answer any questions you might have about the process.
Preparation: some of your tooth enamel is reduced and reshaped and if needed, decay is removed. This preparation allows us to create the space for the new crown.
Digital scan: a digital wand is used to scan the tooth and this is then sent online to the dental laboratory for processing by a qualified technician. Where possible (99% of the time), we avoid the use of impressions or moulds of your mouth, making the process much more comfortable, less messy and especially helpful to those patients with a tendency to gag!
Finishing touches: we will also make note of your tooth shade, so your crown is in-keeping with your smile and facial features. We will fit you with a temporary crown, whilst we wait to receive your new crown back from the lab.
Fitting your crown: once the technician has made your new crown, it is sent to us – we then fit the crown and that’s it, the treatment is complete!
Replace old crown work: we can replace old crowns that may have fractured, chipped or developed decay under the surface, giving your smile a new lease of life.
Restore the natural appearance of teeth: We select the most appropriate material for your crown and tailor this so that it looks natural. This is made possible through the use of modern materials that have light reflection properties which are virtually the same as natural enamel, therefore achieving the great-looking result.
Benefit from a healthier smile: protect your worn or damaged tooth from sustaining further damage and decay.
Feels like a real tooth: your new crown will look and feel just like a normal tooth, and will allow you to enjoy the foods that you love again.
Easy to care for: Caring for new crowns is easy. Make sure you’re brushing and flossing twice daily, just as you do for your own natural teeth. By doing this, you can prevent decay from starting underneath the crown. Combined with a healthy diet and attending routine dentist and hygienist appointments, crowns are a great long-term solution to restoring teeth.
